In the fiscal year 2018 budget, the name of the Climate Science Centers (CSCs) was changed to the Climate Adaptation Science Centers (CASCs). The name of the USGS National Climate Change & Wildlife Science Center (NCCWSC), which manages the eight regional centers, also has a new name - the National Climate Adaptation Science Center (NCASC).
These changes were officially implemented with the passage of the budget on March 23, 2018. Functionally, the mission of our network hasn’t changed. We are still hard at work to deliver science to help fish, wildlife, water, land, and people adapt to a changing climate. The changes, however, more clearly align the national and regional centers, and emphasize the centers’ focus on meeting natural resource adaptation needs.
You may notice some places where we are still referred to by our old name. We are actively working to make the necessary changes across our websites and other online platforms. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we make this transition, and keep an eye out in the coming weeks for our updated website and newsletter!
